First things first, just so that we’re all crystal clear, I am NOT pregnant. Any time I write something like a big change, or baby or mention the word “pregnant,” I seem to send my family (ahem, mom…ahem, in-laws) into a frenzy. So I repeat again, I’m not pregnant.
Now that we have that covered, let’s move on. 🙂
Over the weekend, I went on a whirlwind roadtrip with one of my bestest friends to attend another one of my bestest friends’ baby showers. It seemed like a slightly crazy schedule – drive 9+ hours on Friday, baby shower on Saturday and drive 9 + hours on Sunday. Makes me tired just thinking about it.
On the way down, we were sooo good about not falling victim to the usual roadtrip curse (aka consuming copious amounts of junk food). Instead, we had both packed fruit, nut butter packets, Larabars, and of course plenty of water. We also (or rather I also) consumed a lot of coffee…but hey, a pre 5 am wake up requires some serious caffeine.
By the time we arrived at our friend’s house we were pretty hungry (and ready to be out of the car!). I took Abbie on a walk and then gorged myself with delicious veggie fajitas. We had another friend flying in late from NYC so I knew that despite how tired I felt, we were in for a long ass night. So while we sat around catching up and cracking up watching amazing reality TV (ahem, Married at First Sight…), some ice cream happened.
Of course my pregnant girlfriend started it. She kept talking about the peanut butter cup ice cream in the freezer…and talking about it…until finally she was dishing it up and we were all eating it. Then at some point in my half awake state, I remember her saying, you guys should have more, there isn’t much left. So I’m thinking, yeah, I should have more. And I did have more. Like kind of a lot more.
The next morning I woke up way too early (ugh) with a bit of a stomachache. A stomachache that was totally my own fault. When I sleepily went out looking for the coffee, I realized that I was the ONLY one who had ice cream seconds. Not even the pregnant lady went back for more. HAHA!
Started off the day with a light breakfast and some coffee and then we were off for some baby shower fun in Berkeley (our old stomping grounds). Of course, I ate WAY too much cheese and bread things while sipping champagne.
But it didn’t stop there. We went and walked around campus for old time’s sake. Snapped some selfies. Wandered into our old lecture halls in search of bathrooms. And then found ourselves in one of our old favorite spots – the asian food ghetto – as students used to call it. We gorged ourselves on nachos, ramen and other delicious things.
When we got back to the house, I took Abbie and her new bestie Hunter on a walk…
And then we cracked open some wine (of course, minus the preggo lady), got the leftover shower cupcakes back out and watched 50 Shades of Gray (yes, really, we did).
Another late night, followed by another early morning on the road and a little less willpower and I was eating like a pregnant lady (or…er… way more than a pregnant lady) all the way to Portland. Red vines, peanut butter pretzels, peanut butter packets, salty things, more salty things, iced tea, coffee, iced coffee….
So what I learned this weekend, other than the fact that babies go through 7-9K diapers in one month (#fact), is that when I am given the opportunity to eat like a pregnant lady, I’m up for the challenge.
Today, it all stops. Time to hit restart and then some (thank god for bootcamp tonight!).
Anyway, what are some of your fave roadtrip worthy snacks?
Stay sweaty friends!

I had a similar weekend traveling 7+ hours to Virginia to a wedding then back again, also fueled by coffee and way too much food! Sometimes it’s fun to indulge and if I were you, I would have gone back for seconds too 🙂

I don’t want to sound like a goody two shoes, but I’m usually pretty good. Not because I don’t want to eat all the pregnant woman food but because most of that stuff has animal something in is and I’m pretty strict with myself there. I will gorge on nuts, fritos, and oreos though 🙂
