After my recent interview with Chilli, I started to think more about what she was saying about drinking pH water and how important it is to have a more alkaline body. As an athlete and fitness enthusiast, I’m always looking for the best ways to stay hydrated and fuel my body properly. And sometimes water just isn’t enough. Sometimes I’m looking for something to also replace electrolytes that I’ve lost through sweating and during ultras, I’m even looking to replace a few calories and maybe have something tasty to look forward to. It’s always a delicate dance for me – I don’t want something overly sugary that might give me stomach issues – but I also sometimes want something that tastes good, hydrates me and helps me perform better.
And there are a lot of options on the market today – everything from your conventional sports drink (Gatorade, for instance), to coconut water, maple water, to specialized endurance athlete drinks (TailWind, Nuun, etc) – I’ve literally tried them all. Some good, some bad and some just plain ugly.
I was recently introduced to a new sports drink on the market, Phenoh74, the first sports drink focused on balancing the pH in our bodies, using only natural ingredients. Its made with seven natural ingredients and includes things like aloe vera, agave nectar, and is super high in potassium with no added sodium. It’s only 30 calories per serving so it truly can be used as a sports drink or every day refreshment (and it doesn’t get too crazy on the sugar spectrum – not a soda in disguise as a sports drink!).
Phenoh74 is focused on helping the body maintain its natural pH level of 7.4 – meaning doing the reverse of all the other things we eat and drink throughout the day – coffee, processed foods, chemicals, etc. It not only works to help you maintain your body’s healthy pH balance (alkalinizing), its also hydrating AND has anti-inflammotory properties (thanks to the Aloe Vera!). Love that for during a run or even for recovery from one.
While we have a lot of choices when it comes to sports drinks, this is one I would highly encourage everyone to try! It has everything you need as an athlete, fitness enthusiast, or someone in need of a little extra hydration and balance…ahem, hangovers. 😉
