It’s hard to believe that it was 4 and a half years ago that I ran Ragnar So Cal with my Sweat Pink ladies Debbie, Melissa, Jill, and Carrie (shoutout Dirty Dozen!).
And it’s crazy to think just how much has happened since this race (read: getting married, raising a puppy, moving to Portland, opening a studio, having a baby…). It’s funny because I started reminiscing about how much has happened in such a short amount of time just last week while talking about how Sweat Pink has evolved over the years and I almost couldn’t believe it as I said it.
Even with everything that’s changed, two very important things haven’t (and hopefully never will):
- I love to run.
- I love to run with my friends.
I love to run so much that I keep a standing 5:45 am run date with the Flex & Flow run club on Wednesday mornings and spend every Saturday morning putting in early morning miles, no matter what time my infant alarm goes off or how little sleep I get. Getting up and out so early definitely isn’t always easy, especially now that it’s so dark and foggy in the mornings, but it’s ALWAYS worth it.
So while getting back into running after pregnancy and new baby life has not been easy, it has been oh so important for me in maintaining my sense of self and finding something that resembles balance. I do my best to hit the trails and road (thanks to my new Bob Blaze stroller!) as much as my crazy #momlife schedule allows. While I don’t have a very rigorous race schedule at the moment, I completed a spontaneous 25K this summer (just 3 months postpartum) with my Portland crew…
And I’m super excited to be running my second race post baby – Ragnar Trail Relay: Los Coyotes – with the Ragnar Sweat Pink team. I’m so excited to be taking a mini escape from mom life for two whole days which I’ll spend trail running with my friends and teammates: Jenny, Sean, Jared, Debbie, Kristina, Sandra, and Michael!
I’ll be leaving for the race in less than a week (squeee!) and I cannot wait for all of the running, the fun, the costumes, shenanigans…and even the sore legs!
Mamas, how did you get back into running post baby? What was your race schedule like? And what was the hardest part?
Stay sweaty!
XO,
Jamie
