I honestly don’t know how it’s already December.
Did Thanksgiving really happen? Was that election even real (we’ll leave it at that…)? Are we really ringing in the New Year in just one short month? Seriously, can someone explain to me how this happened?!?!
Either way – it’s December 1 – whether we’re ready or not, here we go!
In just a few short weeks, we’ll be celebrating the holidays with family and friends and thinking about what 2017 will bring. Many of us will be setting resolutions or listing out personal goals for the year. For me, I’ve decided to focus on small, actionable goals versus full blown resolutions (they just never seem to work for me, personally). Each month I want to identify a few small changes, or address a few small goals and set deadlines for myself so that I can feel more empowered.
For me, this looking ahead, or rather staring down the barrel of a new year means I have to start setting some goals now. So starting now, on December 1, 2016, with a chill in the air and the holidays basically crashing down on me, I’ve decided it’s time to get serious about a few things:
- Find more time for family: I’ll be the first to admit that I need to find a little more balance in my life and make more time for my family. Not just for my husband and Abbie (my dog) but also for my parents, in-laws, siblings, cousins, and nieces and nephews. The whole fam bam.
- Plan for healthy eating. I used to be so much better about planning meals and staying organized; I used to make time every weekend to have food prepped and meals planned for the week. Lately, I’ve been feeling lucky on the days when I actually eat lunch – I’m finding that I’m either too busy or too tired to want to put any effort into what’s happening in my kitchen. Often times, I’ll subsist on smoothies and coffee all day long just because I don’t have anything on hand to eat which usually results in me being very hangry and ravenous come dinner time. I have decided to recommit myself to planning healthy meals which means planning and preparing breakfast at least 3 times / week (manageable now that I’m all over these overnight oats!), packing lunches at least 2 / week (my husband has picked up some of the slack on this one!), and contributing more to groceries and dinners again – at least 3 / week.
- Strength training: Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that I’m doing yoga all the time. And running as much as I can. But I am missing my regular strength training routine. I used to be so much more diligent about incorporating strength training into my weekly regimen through weekly outdoor bootcamps and even mini at home workouts with my husband (thanks to my amazing BOSU and pull-up bar!). I love being strong and feeling strong. And I want to make this part of my routine again.

December 9, 2016 at 2:40 pmOvernight oats save my life. I need to experiment with more flavor combos — I’m a huge fan of adding frozen blueberries and they turn my oats purple and blueb flavored by the am. I need to step out of my blueb box this next year and maybe into a chocolate pb and banana box among other flavor boxes 😉
