Since today is all about me (hello…it’s National Puppy Day), I thought it would only be appropriate that I make my very first blog debut. I’m Honest Abbie King, AKA Abbie The Vizsla. I know some of you have already met me – either in person or through my mom’s incessant Facebook and Instagram posts – but for those of you that haven’t, I’m an 11 week old vizlsa puppy, originally from the San Diego area (California) and now living in Portland with my new family.
For the past three weeks, I’ve been adjusting to my new life and training my new parents to take me outside to pee a lot and to spray just about everything imaginable with bitter apple so I won’t chew it. That stuff really tastes bad, trust me, I even saw my mom get it in her mouth and almost gag. I’ve spent a lot of time with my mom during the week – I usually help her work during the day – take naps and go on errands with her and even do yoga with her on the deck.
Over the weekend, I was a little surprised because they left me alone in my crate for the longest time EVER…not once but TWICE. The first such occasion was on Saturday afternoon when they got all dressed up in matching gear (and even tried to put a hat on me – grrr) for a basketball game (my dad watches A LOT of basketball). That time wasn’t so bad because they left me when I already napping and dreaming about chewing those big balls….
When they got back, I was in full crazy mode. Running all over the place and terrorizing my mom (sorry mom). They spent the rest of that evening with me and I made eating dinner really difficult for them. I don’t think they quite get that EVERYTHING is about me. Or maybe I’m not getting something…
So Sunday morning, they head off again for yoga. Sometimes my mom practices yoga at home and I help her with her poses – so I don’t understand why she needs to leave for yoga. But anyway, they returned pretty quickly and were sooo nice and sweaty. If they had let me, I would have licked every last drop of that sweat off of them. Mmmmm. They were pretty much gone during naptime so I wasn’t too concerned. My mom spent a lot of the afternoon throwing a ball for me on the deck. She was trying really, really hard to get me to fetch. I only felt like doing it about half the time; the other half of the time I was finding leaves and other things to eat on the deck and forgetting about my mom.
After playtime, they got all dressed up. My mom was in some new boots and kept asking my dad how they looked. I wanted to tell her that they looked pretty tasty to me but she wasn’t listening. Eventually after I had dinner and a potty break, they put me in my crate – wait, it wasn’t bedtime – I could NOT figure out what was going on.
And then they left. And they were gone for a long time – nearly three hours – dinner they said. Dinner without me? What the….
Today, to celebrate my NATIONAL day my mom took me into the place where all those ladies poke and prod at me – the vet. I don’t mind it much because they give me treats while they poke and prod. And I freakin’ love treats…especially those Pill Pockets they smear across the floor to get me to hold still. YES, PLEASE. Puppy crack and I LOVE it.
We got home and we cuddled on the couch watching House of Cards. I thought Claire’s gown looked extra fun to chew dragging behind her as she walked around on episode 3 of season 3 with the Russian president.
So nice to meet you all. Time for me to drift off and dream about places I’ll pee, how much I’ll eat and what I’ll chew next.
