Over the weekend, I felt like an absolute champion…internally, I was basically referring to myself as pregnant lady on fire. Laugh all you want. I would laugh at me too.
On Saturday morning, I ran 5 not that slow miles first thing in the morning, and then participated (ahem, jump squatted and sprinted my life away) at Flex & Flow’s The Saturday Sweat (a butt kicking, express bootcamp class), and then taught yoga…all before 11 am.
I got up on Sunday morning to teach and then stayed for an hour and 15 minute Power Vinyasa class. I was handstanding, chair posing and lunging my way through class – and it felt slightly more reminiscent of my former self (with a little more front body baggage, of course).
Then on Monday, I kept going. Sore legs and all. I made it to a yoga class and then got a much needed afternoon pick me up with a Gixo workout (running 4 miles at a 9:18 / average pace). Again, not that slow.
Then Tuesday came, and I was a different person. I could barely move in my morning yoga class (I was on my knees more than anything else), and a slow 3 mile afternoon walk with Abbie was more than difficult. It was like poof, I was back to feeling all the back pain. All the limited mobility. AND ALL THE PREGNANT. I went from feeling less pregnant to holy shit, I’m really PREGNANT in the course of a day.
And with each passing week, with each passing day, I’m starting to realize that my ideals of consistency in my pregnancy fitness routine are basically a crock of shit. You can try and have a fit and healthy pregnancy all you want, but if you’re striving for consistency or routine, you’re probably setting yourself up for failure.
And as everyone keeps reminding me, learning to embrace changes or breaks in your routine is just more good practice for actually having a kid. I feel like I’m always hearing this sentence on repeat, “once that baby arrives, you just have to let go and let things happen because you’ll no longer be in control…” See you in a couple of years, consistency. Adios for now!
So while I’m throwing my ideals of workout consistency out the window, I’m trying at the very least to keep some consistency in my pregnancy diet. And by diet, no I don’t mean that I’m on any kind of actual diet. To be perfectly clear, I’m still eating my weight in red vines, as much cheese as humanly possible, tacos to my heart’s content, and of course CARBS (oh, glorious carbs), but I’m also trying to have some consistency with my healthier habits, ie my early morning protein packed smoothies, and mid morning snack (usually in the form of an Eggland’s Best hard boiled egg), and of course a daily dose of greens – which usually involves a lunch time green salad and dinner time veggie concoction (sometimes also in taco form…). All of these daily healthy habits are in perfect harmony with my daily Red Vines consumption, of course.
As I strive for this sense of consistency in my eating habits, I’m thankful to have yet another reason to stay accountable – I’m participating in the Great Lakes Gelatin and Fit Approach WIAW challenge, where everyone is invited to share what’s on their plate TODAY and next Wednesday, March 7 for a chance to win $100. It’s simple to join in on the fun. Just snap a photo of what you ate today or what you eat next Wednesday and tag #WIAW, #LifewithGLG #sweatpink #greatlakesgelatin in your post and tag @Greatlakesgelatin and @FitApproach on Instagram and you’ll be eligible to win. And hint, hint...want some Great Lakes Gelatin or collagen products in your life? A bunch of Sweat Pink’ers are giving them away this week and next on their blogs and social channels – meaning you have so many chances to win.
And if you don’t win, no worries, you can still score some Great Lakes Gelatin products using the discount code WIAW20off from now until March 31, 2018 for 20% off.
Excited to see what y’all are eating this week and next…please share and keep me inspired to stay somewhat consistent with something in my life right now. 🙂
Pregnant friends and / or mamas, how do you deal with the lack of consistency and / or unpredictability that comes with pregnancy / raising kids?
Stay sweaty (and flexible) friends,
XO
Jamie

February 28, 2018 at 1:04 pmIt’s a good reminder to be so grateful for what we’ve got – when things are feeling good and bad.
I think Baby Danger is going to be down for all the stroller runs, hikes, and adventures once he’s out and about. And if not, well, that’s what grandparents are for, right?? Hehe

February 28, 2018 at 2:02 pmWow you are on fire this week! I remember having bursts of energy at times while pregnant too. Might as well take advantage of it! You look beautiful in your yoga pose

February 28, 2018 at 3:12 pmI everything you did this weekend, was so freaking sore for days, and was NOT growing a human life form. You are so on FIRE! And right now I definitely want my butt and couch to be having a full blown affair. Trying to push through so hard right now… 😉

February 28, 2018 at 4:45 pmHAHA, it’s a serious struggle today – my exercise has been an abbie walk + bath and cleaning my house…..

February 28, 2018 at 9:09 pmYou inspire me sooo much. It’s so hard for me to get out of the house and go for walks (mainly because i feel bad leaving the pup at home and it would be CRAZY walking around with the dog and double stroller) or make it to a yoga class. Seeing your daily post of your beautiful belly doing yoga poses I wish I could do makes me try to get at least 15-20 minutes of yoga in daily. Since becoming a mom, I have realized I just have to go with the flow. Every time I think I get the girls on a schedule, they change it the next day. I’ll have to make it to a class soon so I can see you!

March 1, 2018 at 7:50 amDesiree, you’re so amazing, I love watching you be such an awesome mom (and pup mom!!). You’re rocking it – with two, no less! I hear from all my mom friends that consistency becomes total shit once you have them so I feel like since it has started being so inconsistent now – just depending on the day and how my body is feeling – I’m trying to just embrace it and get over myself hahah. 🙂
Hope to see you soon, lady! 🙂 XOXO

February 28, 2018 at 11:21 pmI am so so impressed by you! I was so overwhelmed by pregnancy. I tried so hard to stay active but my ‘active’ paled in comparison to what you are doing! So feel good about that 😂 I have also struggled with finding any kind of consistency since Ellie was born but I try not to get down about it. I take it day by day and week by week. I try to schedule in workouts and if it doesn’t happen according to plan that’s ok! I have to say though that at first the focus was completely on her and I was kind of on the back burner but I am trying harder to balance that out now and focus a little more on me and that helps me be a better mom! Also, don’t worry too much about the future. It’s not here yet. Soak up these last few weeks of independence!!!

March 1, 2018 at 7:48 amSuch good advice, thanks Katie, I’m trying to soak it all in now but it’s SO hard not to think about what’s coming. But you’re right – I need to soak up all these weeks of independence and try to just embrace everything that’s happening. 🙂 You’re so inspiring by how you balance everything – I’m sure I’ll be asking for all the advice soon enough.
