I was so pumped when I got the mail yesterday because there was a HUGE box (over 6 feet tall) waiting for me and I knew it could only mean one thing…..my husband was hiding in a box to surprise me with a new puppy…!!!! ….
Just kidding (duh)….my brand spankin’ new ActivMotion Bar arrived!!
I’ve been super excited to try the ActivMotion Bar because there’s just so much you can do with it. What I love about it, is that unlike traditional workout “bars,” the ActivMotion Bar is filled with rolling steel weights that create unstable motion which forces you to engage your mind and muscle while exercising. For instance, if you hold it above your head while doing lunges, you not only have to concentrate on the lunge and your arms up overhead, you also have to engage your core to hold the bar steady and keep yourself from tipping over.
Yesterday, I spent a good deal of my afternoon working out with and experimenting with my new ActivMotion Bar just so I could use it for this morning’s and this evening’s bootcamp classes – yes, I am THAT EXCITED about it. Somewhere between my grueling Tuesday morning workout, boat loads of work and an evening sweaty yoga class at Yoga Flow SF with the lovely Diana, I found myself going through the entire Movement Library on ActivMotion Bar’s website – trying each move and committing it to memory – I even got creative and figured out some of my own moves which I’ll be excited to torture my bootcampers with. Muahhhaha.
Anyway, we had a pretty solid group out for 6am bootcamp this morning so I had a good number of guinea pigs to try my new bar on. We incorporated Squat Paddles, Heel Taps and V-Ups using the ActivMotion Bar into our regular bootcamp routine and it was awesome. I really like how it forces my victims bootcampers to engage their core and focus on their form.
I’m excited to give it another whirl tonight since I’m teaching Glider Yoga (#gliyo, baby!) at 6 and Bodyweight Bootcamp at 7 at Sweat Republic. If you’re around and need a good sweaty, you know where to find me today!
If you want an ActivMotion Bar for yourself, check em out online, on Twitter and on Instagram.
Stay Sweaty friends!
XOXO,
Jamie

January 8, 2015 at 1:34 pmI used to have access to weighted bars at the gym and loved it, not so much where I am now. I think they are an awesome way to change up the workout.
