As a toddler mom, my weekends typically involve a little Netflix and pizza (and I’m not complaining).
Since I’m not usually out and about late on weekend nights anymore, I generally wake up early, feeling fresh, and ready for action and adventure on my weekend days. And to be perfectly honest, I prefer it that way.
The best (and perhaps most surprising) thing about being an adventurous mama (aside from not having to regularly nurse hangovers) is that I actually find more time for adventuring than I ever did before. Having my little guy hasn’t slowed me down in the slightest; in fact, it has just inspired me to get up and go so I can have a full day with him when I get home, or I get creative and take him with me! It feels good to feel good while I’m out adventuring, ya know?
The only hard part about adventuring now is that I have way more cargo than I ever did before (toddlers take up some serious space!), and it usually takes some creative maneuvering and positioning to carpool to adventures with friends. Thankfully, I was provided with an opportunity to drive a Mazda CX-9 Signature AWD for over a week, and it was the perfect adventure companion for two very adventurous weeks, plus the mini weekday adventures in between.
We had a roomy ride for our drive out to Tillamook and back to run a mountainous 50K. I was able to stretch my legs, store all my snacks, and bring the whole crew to cheer me on at the finish.
And this past weekend, I drove five adults and one dog out to Hamilton Mountain (in the Gorge) in the pouring rain (not to mention, gusty wind!!) for an epic birthday run adventure.
We had everything we needed – including space for our sweaty (and rain soaked bodies), storage for all of our gear (and snacks), seat warmers for our cold bums, an amazing screen that helped me park and back up more safely, and all the technology to help me drive and change lanes more safely (the car beeps at you if you try to change lanes when another car is close – SO COOL).
I love this car so much – it is the perfect adventure ride – and I was SO sad to give it back at the end. Thank you Mazda for fueling my adventurous couple of weeks! It was quite the ride.
Stay sweaty (and adventure often!),
XO
Jamie

October 24, 2019 at 11:37 amThe most inspiring mama! Sometimes when I’m not feeling lazy about getting outside (or even getting out of bed) and then I see your posts I think, “If Jamie is out there doing this WITH a baby and a dog in tow…then I should definitely be able to get my butt out too…” You crush at creating space for all of the important things, adventure lady.
