My main focus in life right now is the Arizona Wildcats NCAA tournament run (well of course, what I mean is, AFTER my beautiful wife and precocious new puppy) – but not far behind is eating everything in sight near our new place in Portland. And we had a few delicious meals recently from the food carts that are in the Mississippi Marketplace, right across the street:
There were a few places in SF that I was extra sad to leave – top of the list was probably the Thai food from Blackwood, but I also had a great spot for breakfast burritos nearby (Marina Deli) that I needed to find a replacement for in Portland. Well, worry no more, The Big Egg is just what the doctor ordered (if the doctor is prescribing delicious egg sandwiches). I got the sausage and pepper egg sando and it might be the best thing I’ve eaten since I got to Portland, other than everything my wonderful (and did I mention beautiful?) wife has cooked. Seriously, it was really good. Only downside is that we wake up early like the married folks with a new puppy that we are, so I wish they opened a little earlier (opens at 9am), and fyi they get busy so you might have to wait a little while. 100% worth the wait though. Jamie just had a coffee from the Five Mississippi coffee truck so she missed out and we’ll have to report on the vegetarian options another time.
Another solid meal. This place is Korean-American fusion. I had the reuben with pork, which was pretty delicious but not too much different than your classic reuben (I guess there was kimchi on it but it wasn’t a main feature or flavor). Either way though, very tasty. Jamie had the Seoul Sliders with tofu. She liked them but thought there was too much bun, and ended up just eating the filling and bottom bun. We also shared a quesadilla with kimchi, which we both thought was the best thing we got. We dropped the ball a little bit since the Korean tacos are their best known item…guess we’ll have to go back so we can try them!
Moda Center (aka Rose Garden) – concession stand
This is just an excuse to post a picture of us at the UofA game on Saturday. I got some nachos from the concession stand. Didn’t remember to take a picture of them but you aren’t missing anything. They were a little stingy with the jalapenos but the Wildcats won and that’s what’s important. Bear Down!
