It’s hard to believe but BlogFest is now just ONE WEEK AWAY and I could not be more excited!
I can’t wait to see friends and meet others in the Sweat Pink family who I haven’t yet had the pleasure to meet before.
One of the people I’ve been super excited to meet and who just happens to be my Woman Crush Wednesday…is Trish Marmo. I’ve been following Trish for years on social media and just love her…and lucky for me, she’s one of my BlogFest buddies.
Let’s meet Trish, y’all!
- Who are you? Tell us in a brief paragraph who you are / what city you live in / what you blog about?
My name is Trish Marmo. I’m a 47 year old Mother of 5 children ranging in age from 11-21. (Yes, they are ALL MINE). I’m a native Floridian, but have called California home for the past 17 years–8 of which have been in beautiful Santa Barbara. I’ve been a registered Nurse for 23 years, but I’m also a Nutritionist and Bikini Fitness Competitor!
Back in 2011 I went through a severe health crisis after my oldest child was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. While stress played a significant role, I believe the mini-strokes I suffered were caused by ill-advised competition prep for a bikini show I’d hoped to enter earlier that year. The 1200 cal/day restricted-diet set up the “perfect storm” that, when coupled with stress, led to strokes in November and December of that same year. Prior to that time in my life, I’d begun a blog that chronicled being the Mom of 5 children–mostly as a way to keep family/friends back home up to speed on our busy lives, but after I decided to reclaim my health, I began to blog on Facebook. I’ve only recently begun to blog on a separate website on a variety of topics related to health/wellness, my family and of course, CF.
Editor’s note: Trish is one tough mama! 5 kids and a bikini fitness competitor (with a rockin’ bod, I might add). I’ll have what she’s having, thanks. 😉
- What are you hoping to get out of BlogFest 2015?
Ideally, I would like to learn how to grow my influence and increase my know-how on social media. Blogging is a natural extension of who I am as a person and my communication style. I was a diarist for almost 13 years before having my first child and I love to write. I enjoy blogging on Facebook because of the interaction and my numbers there show it. Blogging on the other hand is like journaling (you feel like you’re talking mostly to yourself), so I find I’m lacking clear direction “writing for an audience”. I’m hopeful that BlogFest can help me clarify my direction so that my blogging can go from the hobby that it’s been, to the revenue source that I would like it to be.
Editor’s note: I have a feeling that BlogFest is going to leave Trish and her blog feeling inspired, re-energized and ready to take the blog world by storm! At BlogFest you can learn everything you need to know to increase your social media presence, readership, and how to be a better blogger. Whether you’re a newbie blogger or have been around the block, BlogFest is the place to be for education, networking and FITNESS!
- If you could go back to school, what area of study would you focus on?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 23 years and I’ve always had a passion for Nutrition–especially since my strokes. It’s crazy to think that I ignored what I knew and essentially “crash dieted” to get the body I’d had before children. Lesson definitely learned there!!!
I’d pursue an R.D. degree if I went back to school!
Editor’s note: Trish, I think you should meet Melissa Burton. Melissa, meet Trish. Y’all can talk at BlogFest.
- What is your go-to place for fitness questions? (friend, blog, website)?
I love to learn, but I also am a stickler for accuracy and fact-based information, so I look at a variety of sources from medical to research publications, the more technical the better!
Editor’s note: Love it, a lady who does her homework!
- What is your favorite blog you follow and why?
The NieNieDialogues. I love stories of perseverance and the capacity of the human spirit to overcome adversity and find joy in the life we are given.
Editor’s note: A good one, such an amazing read. Hadn’t read this blog before, thanks Trish for the recco, I am now subscribed!
- What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?
Sharing that lifestyle with my family, friends, followers of my Facebook page and clients. There’s nothing better than sharing your passion and helping others in the process!
Editor’s note: so true. There is literally no better feeling in the world than being able to share your passion and helping others. She’s a nurse and a fitness pro – clearly someone who LOVES helping others.
Trish, I cannot wait to meet you in-person at BlogFest, thanks for being my fantastic buddy!
