Finishing my last long training run (the Elk Kings 50K) before Rio Del Lago 100 feels like such a big accomplishment. Somehow it almost feels bigger than the race itself. I felt this wave of relief when I crossed the finish at the 50K – I was like, yeah ok, I’ve put in the hard weeks of training, I’ve done the work, I made it to the taper – and now the only thing left to do is actually race. I got this.
These last couple of weeks of training are all about maintenance. I’m still putting in some miles, but I’m also focusing on my nutrition and sleep.
Thankfully, I’m feeling much more confident in my nutrition ever since attending the NOW Foods Immersion with Sweat Pink last month. We toured NOW’s headquarters, met with NOW scientists (and the CEO!), cooked with NOW products, and even made our own face scrub (I’m super proud of myself for being such a DIY Diva – check out the recipe over @healthycarleeh (and make sure you SAVE it) so you can be a DIY Diva too).
While I’ve always been a fan of the NOW product line, touring the headquarters and meeting the people behind the products really inspired me on a whole new level. It made me more aware of the products I’m cooking with, using on my skin, and incorporating into my life for my overall health and well-being. It even inspired me to start taking supplements more seriously.
I’ve started regularly using a magnesium supplement (I typically mix it into my morning smoothie) to help with my recovery, I have been incorporating Beet Root Powder into everything (smoothies, baked goods, and even sauces…because nitrates!), and I’ve been using the NOW Sports BCAA Big 6 (I’m partial to the watermelon flavor but they also have grape) for post workout recovery. I even got motivated to start taking the Bamboo Silica Beauty capsules (because my nails, you guys – make sure you watch the video to catch a glimpse)
While I’ll never have a career in hand modeling, I will at least have a fighting chance of having healthier hair, skin, and nails thanks to NOW.
Lastly, I’ve been creating healthy snacks that both my little guy and I can enjoy. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite energy ball, smoothie, and soup recipes with y’all shortly!
