Woot, woot, I’m in Portland betches! Actually I flew in Sunday night after my 18 miles pacing Saturday and my epic 11 miler (racking up those extra Holiday Sweat points, of course!).
I always get excited when I get visit Portland for a few days. I love the food scene, the fitness scene and most importantly getting to see good friends. And my most recent trip – albeit for work – is no exception. I started day 1 with an early 5.5 mile run. After my weekend of long runs (and even longer days!), I got out of bed and into my running gear a little begrudgingly. It was cold, it was dark, wahhh wahh wahhhh. But by the time I really got going, I was glad to be out there (though you can’t really tell from the expression on my face). The air was nice and crisp and better than any alarm clock at waking my ass up and getting me ready for a day of taking over the world.
After my run, Alyse and I decided we’d kick-off the day with a mini coffee tour. First stop, Space Monkey Coffee (they have delicious cold brew and smoothies).
From there, we hopped on public transportation and headed downtown to meet with Jenn. Two busses and a mile walk later and we found ourselves at Barista in the Pearl. Holy moly freaking delicious coffee and beautiful chocolates (I smell a chocolate of the week coming soon…). We caught up with Jenn before continuing on with our tour.
The next stop was Lovejoy Bakers – where I had a smashed chickpea sandwich – seriously SO GOOD. They even put lemon slices ON my sandwich. Seriously. And it was so yummy, I completely inhaled it.
After lunch and more taking over the world brainstorming, we headed over to Sister’s Coffee where we finished off our take over the world work day and our coffee tour (also zapped our brains in the process). Another espresso and a Brew Dr. Kombucha later and it was time for yoga at the Yoga Pod.
We had signed up for a 6:30pm flow class and were pleasantly surprised to discover it was not only a heated class but a super challenging class. Our instructor, Chris, was super creative with his sequencing and took us to new variations of poses that were both interesting and challenging (like a twisted dancer, SO HARD, who knew?). He also had us doing a crazy core sequence in the beginning of class – small movements that were so incredibly difficult – and then continued on with our core using our upper body movements while in Warrior 2. I have SO MANY new ideas for my own classes, thanks to Chris’ inventive sequencing and variations (thanks!!).
One hour and 15 minutes later, I was drenched and ready to eat. We headed back to Tasha’s for an Indian inspired lentils meal (recipe via 101 Cookbooks and made by the one and only Tasha) and peanut butter chocolate cookie thingys. Oh and of course, we caught up on the latest episode of 90 Day Fiance…because it’s only one the BEST shows on TV right now. 😉
Monday’s Holiday Sweat Point Total: 12.8. BOOM.
Stay Sweaty Friends!
XOXO,
Jamie
