Running amok!

April 17, 2015 by Abbie The Vizsla 1 Comment

Hey y’all – Abbie the Vizsla coming atcha on this beautiful, sunny Friday – I am happy to report that I am 14.5 weeks old, 18 lbs and just spent my very first week as a fully vaccinated dog which really just means one thing: DOG PARK!!!!

Almost as soon as I received that last shot in my butt, I was tromping through the grass over to the greatest place on earth – the DOG PARK – my mom unleashed me and I was free to romp with all the giant creatures in the park. My first day was a little overwhelming because this little black dog (seemed like an adult but was just my size) kept barking at me and then chewing on me a little too hard. My mom kept coming and grabbing me from his chompers but soon, he’d find me again and the chewing would start all over again. After awhile his owner took him away which I was happy about and then I played with a GIGANTIC dog (my mom says it was a German Shepard). He was cool. I basically just ran after him while he chased a ball. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. And then I was too tired to even move….like whoa, so tired.

Ever since that first day, we’ve been back. We have been going every afternoon and every afternoon, it seems to get easier. I have met so many dogs – big, small, and ugly – and I try to leap over almost all of them. I saw a chihuahua leap onto the bench (little athlete!) and I’ve decided that will be my next big move.

And while the dog park itself has been so freaking amazing, I’ve also got to enjoy some trail running with both of my parents. They took me to Forest Park for a couple of hikes and then we ended up running for a little while. It’s crazy how much faster I am than both of them. I’m so fast that they had a hard time getting this cool video of me:

Just imagine how much faster I’ll be once I’m bigger….my mom has dreams that I’ll  help her become a faster runner…I think she’ll have no choice. 😉

The only thing I’m not too certain about on the trails is the running water. It’s a little scary and cold but they made me put my paws in anyway and used treats to coax me across the stream (sneaky little buggers).

XOXO
