It’s officially spring and I officially need to spring clean. I hate to admit this but every single time I open a drawer or closet in our house, I almost feel suffocated by the mountain of clothes and stuff that we have. First world problems, I know…
Let’s be honest, I have never claimed to be a minimalist. Nor have I ever tried. I didn’t even read the book because I truly can’t find joy in tidying up and I’m just not that organized. And if I’m honest with myself (and all of you), I still sometimes leave my towel on the floor…so I’m just gonna work on that first and will save the art of tidying for another day…
Year after year, move after move, I’ve said I was going to spring clean and then just end up getting rid of one or two trash bags full of stuff and then closing the overstuffed drawers and closets while promising myself that I’ll look at it another day. With each spring comes the same promise and sadly enough, the same result.
This spring, I’ve decided that I need a little extra motivation to really kick my spring cleaning into gear. Here’s what I’ve come up with thus far:
- I will treat myself to a really nice spring cleaning glass of wine (of course, to be enjoyed while loading trash bags…)
- I will treat myself to this adorable, must-have spring dress from prAna. It truly won’t take up much room in my closet and besides, it’s 15% off using my discount code S4P17JKF at checkout.
- I will finally put some of my massage gift certificates to use.
- I will give myself a weekend morning off! Say WHAT?!!?!?
Along with extra motivation, I decided I also needed to arm myself with some solid spring cleaning tactics to help both my husband and I get rid of things. We both have (and still wear) clothes that are holy, stained, and sometimes even kind of dank smelling (you know those dry-fit shirts that just don’t smell right anymore that you keep wearing and swearing you’ll eventually get rid of….). I mean, I’ve even found watch chargers and accessories for a watch that literally went out of business and no longer even functions (why would anyone hold on to something like that….???).
Since we clearly need help, I’m using this handy dandy spring cleaning cheat sheet from Tommy John, a maker of men’s boxer briefs; it’s chock full of great tips that will help us decipher whether an item should go in the keep or donation pile. And while it may seem simple or even silly to all of you super organized, tidy folks out there, it’s pretty darn necessary for people who still leave their towel on the floor…and their very thrifty, loves to save everything partners in crime…
How are you starting your spring? What are your spring cleaning tips and tricks?
Stay sweaty friends!
XOXO
Jamie
