I had a BUSY morning this morning. I got up a little after 5 am to teach yoga and take the class after mine before jumping on an early morning team call. I also needed to get the dog outside and exercised and make it to my early afternoon hair appointment on time. Not wanting to sit and stew in my stinky yoga pants all day – especially while getting my haircut – I knew I was going to need to find time for a shower. At approximately 9:13 am, I jumped in the shower and by 9:26 am, I was showered, dressed and ready to roll out the door, with 4 minutes to spare before my 9:30 call. As I patted myself on the back for my efficient use of time, I couldn’t help but think how after thirty some years, I’ve finally learned how to dress myself.
And while that may sound silly, it’s true. I used to spend my mornings in front of the mirror agonizing over what to wear or throwing outfit after outfit on the floor, wondering what I was thinking when I bought each piece. It would take me so long to decide on what to wear that I would often start my day feeling stressed out, frazzled and … needless to say, running late for EVERYTHING.
Now I can get ready in less than 15 minutes – and that includes a shower.
So what changed?
Well, for starters, I changed.
I’m more mature and less self conscious than I was in my 20’s. I’m more comfortable in my skin and don’t feel the need to stress over how I look day in and day out. I can leave the house with less than perfect hair and don’t feel the need to agonize over my outfit choice.
But it’s more than just maturity.
I’ve also changed the way I think about clothes.
In my 20’s, I would shop for whatever was trendy at the moment; I would always try and be up to date on the latest trends, no matter how uncomfortable I might have felt. For instance, if I knew I was going out after work, I would wear really high heels with a cute (but less than comfortable) top and jeans even if I knew I’d be walking a couple of miles to and from the bus stop and my office. I’d forgo all comfort and ease to have the perfect shoe with my perfect outfit only to look less than perfect when I arrived, half stumbling on blistered, tired feet.
My outfits were often on trend but not quite suited for my style or even my body type. I would force myself to wear things that I thought should wear versus the things I am most comfortable in and make me feel great in my own skin.
Now I focus on finding versatile, classic pieces that can take me through the whole day. Since I’m a very active person and on the move throughout my day – often walking or riding my bike – I look for pieces that are cute, flattering on my body, comfortable enough for my commute and classic enough to wear for as long as I like.
But it’s also more than just how I think about how clothes look on my body…
As an outdoor and nature lover, it’s also become more important to me than ever before to choose things that fit with my lifestyle and beliefs. It’s not just finding clothes that fit my body well or even finding clothes that I can wear to every activity, it’s also about choosing clothes that are better for the planet. I do my best to buy sustainable and fair trade items and recycle clothes and accessories whenever I’m able.
Which is why I LOVE prAna.
prAna makes clothes that truly fit my lifestyle – they are made with active people in mind – and always bend, stretch, and move with me.
Like these AMAZING pants – the Annexi Pants from prAna’s new spring line.
They’re not only cute and flattering but also so versatile. You can dress them up or down and wear them nearly everywhere. They’re super movable and comfortable without looking too much like sweat pants. If you’re like me and need to take a mid-day handstand break at the park, nobody will ever need to know….
I’m also obsessing over this adorable sweater
The Liana Sweater is a perfect layering piece and looks great over tanks, dresses, with skirts or even yoga pants. I’ve literally worn it every day since I got it – from yoga class to a night out on the town. It’s such a great and versatile wear anywhere piece that you can feel good about wearing.
And perhaps what I love most – even more than the fact that prAna specializes in cute, versatile clothes that truly move with your active lifestyle – is that they are dedicated to sustainable practices – both when it comes to the materials they’re using and the people they are hiring to make them.
prAna truly makes clothes that suit ME. They’re outdoorsy, adventurous, love to move, sweat and play and do good for others and the environment.

March 1, 2017 at 7:51 pmI totally agree! It’s all about finding the clothes that suit your body type and your lifestyle! I loved pencil skirts and high heels at the office, but it’s a little hard to #stopdropandyoga and play with abbie in them… 😉
