I’ve always loved the simplicity of running. It isn’t a sport that requires much coordination, equipment or even skill. It involves putting one foot in front of the other, a good pair of shoes, and sometimes a strong mind.
It’s simple. And beautiful. And sometimes even….a little painful.
Running is so simple that it can be done virtually anywhere, and on almost any surface.
And it isn’t a workout that you have to miss out on if you travel; instead it can be the very way you choose to explore somewhere new. I certainly love to do that. Take my recent trip to North Carolina, for example.
Because it requires little coordination and skill, we often use running to tune out. To go inward. To think or sometimes even just to let all the chatter melt away.
As someone who appreciates this very thing about running – the ability to lace up my shoes and head out for a run to clear my head or simply tune out the rest of the world – I’ve also found that running can make you very vulnerable.
So whether you’re out getting lost in your thoughts or your latest podcast, make sure you’re heading out on your run with the right gear to keep you safe!
In honor of Global Running Day, I’m sharing my favorite gear for staying safe wherever your shoes might take you.
- AfterShokz: If you like to get lost in the music (or in my case, a good podcast), do yourself a favor and get a pair of AfterShokz Trekz Titanium headphones. They use bone conductive technology to provide great sound while still allowing you to stay open to your surroundings (like for instance, cars, people, or in my case…rattlesnakes).
- Wearsafe: If you’re like me and enjoy running alone, you should get yourself Wearsafe Tag. It’s designed to get your help in an easy and efficient manner. The Wearsafe Tag is a small, discreet device that can attach to clothing and with the press of a button, can alert your most trusted friend and family that you are in need of help. Don’t want to wait for something to happen – get smart and be safe while you’re out on the road or the trails with Wearsafe.
- Who Am I ID: I never want to think about the what if but I’d like to think that I’m prepared for it. We never think twice about carrying an ID when we’re out doing normal everyday things so why not carry identification while you run? While running, I sport my Who Am I ID bracelet that not only contains vital information that would be helpful in any emergency situation but also lights up and is reflective (can your driver’s license do that? I don’t think so!). Best of all? The bands fit comfortably on your ankle and/or arm for a distraction-free run.
Happy Global Running Day to all the runners out there. Don’t forget to put one foot in front of the other and join me for the first women’s-only race and yoga festival weekend. Use code FLEXANDFLOW for 20% off your registration.
What’s your favorite way to #RunSafe? Do you run with an ID or personal safety device?
Stay sweaty friends (and happy Global Running Day!)
XOXO
Jamie
Disclaimer: I was provided with WearSafe Labs, AfterShokz and Who Am ID products to review. That said, all opinions, words, and hilarious jokes are my very own. I truly appreciate all of the brands that support the Sweat Pink community.
