It’s SNOWING!! YAY! We woke up to a beautiful snowy morning in Tahoe and the dogs went out and romped around – chasing each other, sliding around, and jumping in the fresh snow. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this much snowfall in Tahoe and am hoping this means the ski resorts will FINALLY get the snow they so desperately need.
We’ve been here a few days now but haven’t yet gone snowboarding. There just hasn’t been enough snow to justify an expensive lift ticket. The first day we went on long walks with the pooches, went down to the lake (the dog beach at Zephyr Cove) and then to a yoga class at Mountain Yoga in the evening. It was a flow 1 class so a little more basic than we’re used to…but still nice to move either way.
Yesterday there still wasn’t enough snow to justify paying for a lift ticket so we went cross country skiing out in Hope Valley instead. We rented skis for $25 at the Hope Valley Yurt and went out and explored the trails. We found a pretty good run – with about a half mile worth of a hill – and tempted fate by skiing down. I don’t know if I’m missing something but I still haven’t figured out how to actually cross country ski downhill. I Â basically point my skis down and hope for the best, not knowing exactly how I can stop or if I will stop. Thankfully, we all made it down the long hill alive and then hiked our way back up.
On the hike up the hill, I was multi-tasking trying to put my sunglasses on and took my first spill – going backwards – Bella immediately came to see if I was ok, probably partially because I was giggling like a maniac. The uphills felt really good – such a good workout – and great cross training for running. And of course, Bella was in doggy heaven, just romping around us, jumping in the big tufts of snow.
And we limbo’ed….
Oh and we found an anatomically correct snowlady 😉 …
Today is still unplanned. The rest of our crew (Chris, Yelena and Hunter) arrived last night. I took Bella and Hunter out for a snowy early morning walk and potty break. And now everyone is starting to stir…breakfast is happening….and then we’ll see where this beautiful snowy day takes us!
