This week was a doozy; I spent half the week in Lake Tahoe celebrating my mom’s 60th and about a quarter of the week making my way back to Portland (a long drive turned even longer…), and now I’m finally home for the weekend.
Even though I was away from home all week partaking in celebrations for my mom’s birthday, spending as much quality time as I could with my fam (and dogs!), and enjoying the great Tahoe outdoors as much as possible, it still somehow didn’t feel as much like a vacation as I thought it would. I was waking up early and staying up late to stay caught up with work and fitting in play time in between. While there wasn’t a whole lot of “relaxing,” I still managed to have a whole lot of fun. I guess it helps when you love what you do…and when you get snowed in for a little while (as it turns out, I’m pretty productive when I get snowed in).
So this week’s Friday Five goes out to all the lady bosses out there; I’m dedicating it to all of the ladies who get up early, stay up late and get things done! To all the women who love what they do and work hard at it.
Women Who March.
I am so incredibly proud to be part of this tribe, this tribe that knows no boundaries but links us all together, arm in arm, fighting for our rights. Spreading empowered vibes.
Inspiring Moms.
I spent the last week celebrating my super inspiring, lady boss mom.
She just celebrated a big milestone birthday (hint, hint, 30×2 – don’t tell her I told you!) and was out snowshoeing, skiing, getting stuck in deep powder, running around with the dogs and staying up late to have a little wig party fun. She’s pretty much….awesome….and forever and always, my inspiration.
I also got to spend some major quality time with another one of my favorite, super inspiring moms: my best friend and super mom herself, Alyse.
She rocks at this whole mom thing while still managing to run a business, get her sweat on, and look great while doing it. I look up to her in so many ways (both literally and figuratively) and am so proud of the amazing woman (and mom!) that she is.
Studio Bosses.
Since opening Flex & Flow just over a year ago, leaving for a weekend, much less a week, always fills me with dread. Thanks to Liz and Nicci, my two right arms, for being the most amazing studio bosses I could ask for. Did I mention how much I love this tribe?
Ladies Who Lift…..
We did some HEAVY lifting this week with the Surge, one of the new hydro inertia training tools from Hedstrom Fitness. In fact, this week’s workout was all about the lifting for week three of our #HydroStrong #BuildYourBestBody Challenge.
Here’s the workout if you want to follow along.
Using your Surge, do the following:
- Side lunge with overhead extension, hold for 5-10 seconds
- Shoulder raises, 10 reps
- Deadlifts, 10 reps
- One legged hamstring extension with overhead press, 5 reps / side
- Bicycle crunches, 10 reps
- Repeat all of the above 2-3 times
If you’e doing this workout with a Surge, just fill it with water to make it the appropriate weight for your workout and get a challenging workout that will help you tone, strengthen and of course improve balance and core strength.
If you want to try a #HydroStrong workout for yourself, visit: http://www.hedstromfitness.com/sweatpink and don’t forget to use SPHF25 at checkout for 25% off any Hedstrom Fitness hydro inertia products (valid from Friday, 1/20 until 2/28 and open to anyone in US / Canada).
Sprint, HIIT and SWEAT..
Last but certainly not least, this Friday Five goes out to all of you who worked up a sweat with us this week for the #IAmEmpowered #FFYHIITYoga Challenge. I’m still feeling the burn.
Stay sweaty friends!
XOXO
Jamie
Disclaimer: I was provided with a Surge to review. That said, all opinions, thoughts, words are my very own. I truly appreciate all of the brands that support the Sweat Pink community.
