Sorry for those of you who have heard this story WAY too many times…but Super Bowl Sunday is a special day for Casey and me.
We actually met at a mutual friend’s Super Bowl party four years ago. I had just returned home from a weekend in Tahoe that morning and had a lot of work to do (maybe history really does repeat itself…). I had no plans to watch the Super Bowl and figured I’d spend a quiet Sunday afternoon getting work done and preparing for a trip to Dallas (for a conference).
Meanwhile, a good friend of mine was across the street at another friend’s house for a Super Bowl party. He kept inviting me to join and I kept declining. About 10 texts later, I finally decided to make an appearance. I had finished my work, was getting a little antsy and figured one beer would take the edge off packing. But by the time I got there the Super Bowl had ended. Naturally, everybody that had remained at the party was a little buzzed from a few hours of beers (and chips and dip). I was sitting on the couch chatting with my friend when Casey approached and practically stole my friend’s seat. He tried to impress me with his Italian language skills (before he knew I had actually studied abroad in Italy) and then he really impressed me when Glee came on and was able to explain and catch me up on what was going on….a real keeper!
I left the party….and honestly just couldn’t stop thinking about him (cheesy, I know). I really don’t know exactly what it was. But there was just something….he would say his good looks…but I’d say it was something else. Anyway, we connected on Facebook and then I left for Dallas. The whole week I was in Dallas, I was chatting with him over email; I remember getting so excited every time I would see a new message from him. My heart was all a flutter (even more cheesy).
When I got back that following weekend, he asked me out to dinner and of course I agreed! He got to my apartment EARLY (ok, right on time…but early for me) and I was of course, running late. Oops. And if that wasn’t enough, I was so nervous on our first date that I just talked, and talked and talked and talked – he never got a word in edge wise. It was a pretty terrible first date from both of our perspectives. And even weirder…the next day was Valentine’s Day (talk about AWKWARD). Thankfully, we have more than made up for our terrible first date and still laugh about to this day.
So yeah, as a non football fan, even I hold a special place in my heart for the Super Bowl….
To “celebrate” our non anniversary (as Casey likes to say), we went out to dinner with friends on Friday night and then caught the Kishi Bashi show at the Palace of Fine Arts. If you haven’t seen Kishi Bishi live, you have to figure out when he’s in your city and GO (Casey says so!). He’s a musical genius. He’s totally and completely amazing. For reals. Just do it.
We woke up Saturday and went on a quick trail run. It was 70 degrees, sunny and just totally beautiful out. I took my Hoka Valor 2’s out for a spin and really liked them for the slightly less technical trails we were on. We enjoyed the views and each other’s company and then made our way over to OMpower for the Sweat Challenge.
Was pumped to co-teach an athletic yoga class with my friend Nick, AKA The Big Yogi. We co-led an awesome class with awesome people…all for charity!
Sunday…well…I took the opportunity to have a rest day. We might have overdone our celebrating a little on Saturday night ;).
Hope everyone had an AWESOME weekend and are ready to #TakeTheLeap and join the #LJFitChallenge!
Stay sweaty friends!
XOXO,
Jamie
